Below are two letters to the editor within the past week. Both were published in the Express Times. One is still available online. I cracked a grin while reading the below text, but only because it’s true. Everyone always gripes about how politics will never change, but here in Pennsylvania’s 15th district, voters will not have to choose between the twin “lesser evils” of the Establishment. The “Our Open Office” concept will not only arm each resident with a public voice, but it has the future possibility to move politics out of the dark ages and change the DC gang of 535 into public servants instead of masters.
If you like the status quo, don’t vote for Jake Towne
After doing research on the candidates of the 15th Congressional District, I discovered that Jake Towne is out of touch with politics in America. He has this crazy “open office plank” that offers real transparency and accountability.
Towne plans to show all of his constituents they have a voice and they will be heard. They can submit bills online, comment, vote, debate and criticize what is going on. Then he will be forced to answer why he voted for or against each bill.
It is totally unrealistic to think that voters should have a say or even know what is going on in the government. He also believes in sound money and defending the Constitution. He doesn’t think the federal government should “protect us” with bailouts to corporations and banks, sending our money overseas to fight unconstitutional wars while destroying our dollar’s value.
He naively thinks the government’s responsibility is to protect individuals from fraud and guarantee our rights to life, liberty and property.
Sending Towne to Washington will disrupt business as usual in Congress. Voting for him will be a wasted vote. A vote for the Republicrats will keep the status quo.
