Reading this article was a great way to start a new year of continued education that will fortify me for the upcoming battle to do the same thing that Jake is doing; win a seat in our US Congress. Jake thanks again for the great work researching the facts and writing a concise and easy to understand piece.

Peace and liberty, -mike

Jake,

All great points.   Not only is the welfare/warfare state morally wrong, unbecoming of a free land, and in most cases unconstitutional, but it is UNAFFORDABLE.  Lots of leftists, many on college campuses, talk about "sustainability".  I'm not entirely sure what they mean, but it largely deals with "green" energy and recycling on campus.  Yet, they refuse to acknowledge that pyramiding of debt by inflation and welfare redistribution schemes are both totally unsustainable.  They will acknowledge that our current health care system is unsustainable, yet they pose MORE MANAGEMENT over it.  It's the combination of the introduction of subsidized corporate management and Medicare/SS/Medicaid, which have caused such huge problems and price increases in health care.  They don't care about the fact that it is MANAGEMENT in general which is causing the unsustainable conditions in healthcare.  Somehow for them, government management is different than corporate management (in a meaningful way).

I don't know why I went on about health care there, but you are right about constant prosperity and constant peace.

---

Happy New Year everyone.  With our efforts and God's will, we will experience peace and liberty this year.

The government does not create money through central banking.

"modern governments, through central banking, have monopolized control over the production of money."

It is not the governments that have a monopoly on money but the central banks. It is erroneous to believe that government controls central banking, it is in fact the opposite. Central Banking creates money and charges interest to governments thereby gaining leverage over governments.

Jake,

Very well put and plainly said, these are the things that present leadership should be ashamed of, yet they blindly lead the way. Not because they are leaders at all but rather under informed fallowing the lead of stupidity itself. When I get no one is actually looking then I see how one could run amuck, but then our citizens are so busy with their very lives to pay attention to viewable results. Statistics of what you have shown should be on the forefront of how big stupid really is and we should all open our eyes and participate in changing its direction. Since we are the enforcers of what we allow to happen in this country and as of today its obvious we allow anything others presently want regardlesss of how stupid. When will we all look in the mirror and decide it is us that protect our rule of law and not the lawless in America. Lets really look out and see who is leading our nations pigs in this country because it is definitely not those who contest they represent us. Deception rains on us as usual, how embarrassing.

Great Article!  I like the graphs you use to back up your points (especially this one on DoD spending, and the one on potential opium production in your article on afghanastan in particular).  This one does a great job of illustrating how rediculously out of control our DoD spending is.  Like you said, many americans are unaware of the true size of our warfare state.  It's easy to get duped into blindly supporting our military (who doesn't want to be safe right) when you don't have perspective on the costs associated with the benifits (which seem to be an illusion of safety from terrorism through perpetual war).  When trying to educate people I have found your articles and they way you provide sources and facts to back up conclusions very helpful.

Also, good point from TexanInSweden (and good reply).  I think 'its really one big incestuous mess' sums it up nicely.

One of the articles I should have referenced by name for those looking for more facts is "America's Military Empire"  here http://towneforcongress.com/economy/americas-military-empire
