Towne presents alternative in 15th District

Concerned voters who pay attention to politics should get frustrated when the two big political parties and the media continually spout off about the ”parties assumed nominees” and totally ignore the other candidates.
Take the congressional race, for instance. The Lehigh Valley is in Pennsylvania‘s 15th District.
The candidates for the race are Independent Jake Towne, Republicans Charlie Dent and Matthew Benol, and Democrat John Callahan.
The Democratic Party can justly spout off about John Callahan since he’s so far the party’s only candidate.
The GOP, however, keeps focusing on Charlie Dent while ignoring Benol and his support from the local tea parties.
Independent Jake Towne is doing more work on his campaign than all the other candidates combined. He is going door-to-door, handing out campaign fliers, he has published two expensive campaign ads in The Morning Call, and he has amazing, well-thought-out campaign planks on his Web site.
Towne talks about the Federal Reserve, the Iraq and Afghanistan ”wars,” the income tax, health care, and government transparency in ways I don’t see the other candidates doing.
I am very proud to support Jake Towne for Congress.

Independent congressional candidate Jake Towne has kicked off his petition drive, his campaign announced this week.
Unlike the major party candidates who had to file their petitions by Tuesday, Towne, a Lower Nazareth Township resident, couldn’t start gathering petition signatures until Wednesday. He has until August to obtain 3,629 signatures.
Towne is one of four candidates declared in Pennsylvania’s 15th District congressional race. Republican incumbent Charlie Dent, Democratic Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan and Republican Palmer Township resident Matt Benol also are running.
Towne is holding petition signing events today and Saturday. Today, he’ll be at Wildflower Cafe in at 316 S. New St. in Bethlehem from noon to 8 o’clock. He’ll be at Seward’s Steak Shop, 202 S. 17th St. in Allentown from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Towne also is holding one of his regular “Towne Hall” meetings 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bethlehem Township Community Center, 2900 Farmersville Road.
