Towne for Congress nearly surpassed the $16,390 fundraising total for all of 2009 by raising this total to $30,917. Towne for Congress has raised money from 653 donors, and when the candidate and the next top 5 donors are removed, the average from each donor is roughly $35.
While his career politician opponents have yet to sink a single penny into their own campaigns, Jake is his campaign’s largest contributor with $3,146 donated so far. Towne for Congress has raised 100% of all funds with donations from individuals, and does not – and never will – accept corporate PAC or lobbyist donations.
At the end of 2009, Towne for Congress was the top independent or major third party fundraiser in the nation for US House per the FEC.
The campaign is currently focused on collecting the signatures needed for ballot access and will appear on the November general election ballot as there are no primaries for independents. Towne appeared this week at Lafayette College in Easton and spoke about solving the unemployment and social security problems to a group of students and citizens.
Towne doubled his cash reserves for the fall by not spending more than what was raised – a novel concept for those in Washington.
Towne is a chemical engineer who worked in the semiconductor industry prior to running for office as an independent private citizen, including the past 4 years in China. Towne has promised to accept only the median household income and not enlist in the congressional health care or pension plans. The remainder of the $174,000 salary will be donated to local non-profit hospitals.
