Jake's Bio

Jake Towne

Life began for me 30 years ago at St. Luke's Hospital. My parents raised me in Nazareth, and I grew up with my three younger sisters and younger brother. During my youth, I loved reading and played team sports year-round. I attended Nazareth Area High School and graduated third in my class. In high school, I played township baseball, football for a couple years, ran cross-country and was a co-captain of the track and field team. I was also on the chess team and the locally-televised Scholastic Scrimmage teams. Then U.S. Congressman Paul McHale also awarded me a Citizenship Award.

While I was growing up, my mother was a homemaker and a schoolteacher and now teaches adult education at a local university. My father works in a machine shop at a local university. My ethic to work hard and deep sense of responsibility came from watching my parents work so hard and sacrifice so much to put food on the table and obtain a chance for us children at a good education. I attended Lehigh University with a full scholarship and graduated with honors, earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. My education also included a summer at Dortmund University in Germany as an exchange student, and a Martindale scholarship, where I traveled to Hong Kong and wrote a paper on their political system since the British handover to the Chinese.

Since my graduation from college, I worked as a process engineer for Ablestik Laboratories in the semiconductor industry, first in California, then close to four years in Shanghai, China. Most of my work was very hands-on, I spent countless hours scaling up or troubleshooting products with technicians in the labs and with operators on the manufacturing floor. I was also fortunate to spend time with customers, and the main purpose of my job was improving our products and factories for them.

While abroad in China, I experienced how hard life can really be without the liberties that we Americans often take for granted. I began taking a closer look at the news from America and also what my friends were telling me. Slowly, I began to recognize that civil liberties were being infringed upon by the government, and economic liberties were under attack, especially the silent theft of purchasing power from the dollar.

Instead of the one breadwinner household like back in the 1950s and 1960s, why do we now need two incomes to raise a family? Why is health care so expensive? Why are so many jobs fleeing our country for the cheap labor of poor third world countries like China? Why didn't the banks have enough money – didn't they have all the money? How did this economic depression start? Who is responsible? I was shocked to discover that our federal government and the Federal Reserve, our central bank, own most of the blame. I have uncovered enough of the lies that I discovered the truth:

All around my beloved home, peace, freedom, prosperity, and love are under siege.

Their polar opposites – war, slavery, poverty, and hate – are on the march, harshly trampling over our liberties.

All hope for change lies in a rEVOLution fought not with bullets, but with our minds.

Why were we content to sacrifice our liberties through the USA PATRIOT Act among many other acts of Congress? Why are we steadily spreading war and civil strife to Afghanistan, then to Iraq, and now Pakistan? Do we even have a clue when we will “win”? I will be honest with you and say I had accepted the premise that the War on Terror was necessary for about five years. I then realized those who attacked us did not do so because they were jealous of our liberties or our prosperity, they did it because our armies were already over there, occupying their countries. The words of Pennsylvanian Ben Franklin ring harsh and true:

“They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.”

I love meeting new people and seeing new places, and have traveled quite a bit in Asia and Europe. The pleasures of backpacking in Nepal, spending time with tribal villagers on the rain-forested Chinese-Burmese border, and hiking all over New Zealand have changed how I view the world. So has the experience of living in the polluted smog of Shanghai, meeting innocents whose legs were blown off by American-built mines in Cambodia, and living among some of the millions of peasant farmer families in rural China. I've discovered that people everywhere are much the same – they want their children to do well and advance in the world, they care deeply about their culture and standard of living, and are generally good-hearted. I believe these experiences have made me a more well-rounded person, able to shift my perspective and listen and see life from the viewpoint of others.

I loved growing up in a big family and look forward to meeting the right person and starting a family of my own one day. That said, I am in no rush and have chosen to devote my full attention to spreading my message. In March of 2009, I returned home to pursue this campaign full-time. On Mayday 2009, I declared my candidacy for my home district's seat for the election on November 2, 2010. As you can see below, this campaign will not be 'politics as usual.'

  • I am running as a private citizen, not with either major party – As I am highly critical of how both Republican and Democratic politicians have behaved over the past decade, I cannot associate myself as a candidate with either party. I will be running as an independent private citizen under no political party. What I offer to the citizens of the 15th district is a true independent ear and voice. Whatever your age, gender, political party, or beliefs, we are all citizens and a better country for ourselves and our children's children is in our best interests. As I once learned, the very terms "conservative" and "liberal" are just forms of verbal warfare meant to divide us.
  • I will focus on spreading my message, winning votes, and both educating residents as well as being educated BY them – The most important task is meeting people, and listening to their thoughts. The intent of my campaign is to become a Congressman who listens to ideas from both you and everyone to create the best solutions to our economic, social, political, and environmental problems. When elected, I will create an “Open Office” – an on-line forum where anyone can share his or her opinions with me, and makes me accountable to you. This website will serve as a demonstration to prove this Open Office idea is more than possible – it's already being done and your voice matters to me.
  • Not a Career Politician – After I am elected, I would listen to your comments on my performance before running again. I harbor no intentions of becoming a "career politician." My aim is to serve as a temporary statesman and bring the voice of the people to government with a lot of energy. I am mindful of the sad truth behind "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." As collateral for this assurance, if elected, I promise I will not enlist in the Congressional pension plan, which guarantees members up to 80% of their salary in annual pension. I believe this is fiscally irresponsible and too lucrative. The current salary paid by you, the taxpayer, for a seat in Congress is $174,000, which is three times our area's median household income. I have announced I will accept only the median household income and will donate the remainder to local non-profit hospitals.  How else could you believe Congress will tighten the purse-strings on wasteful government spending if I fail to start with myself?

I hope to meet you personally as I campaign. I humbly hope that you will find me worthy of your vote, and your vote is cast as an informed decision for the best candidate. I will do my very best to serve you, the people of the Lehigh Valley, the Fighting Fifteenth.

For the Republic!

Run in the Republican open primary  where voters must pick you or the incumbent. Save yourself from the rigged system of the straight ticket avalanche that will snow you under in november. You will only need 2000 republican signatures to get on the spring ballot and then you will know in may if you have any possible chance of winning. You better heed the advice of RON Paul unless you want to waste your time and money and be a forgotten joke in November. Dont be stupid is as stupid does

Following Ron Paul's steps is an intelligent move.  An attempt to break the cycle of two party 'insurgency' is a long hard battle which is usually lost.  Using one of the parties to get into a position isn't a weakening of your honor, but a ruse de guerre.  It will allow you to get your ideas out with a lot of backing.  I have studied this system for many years, and so has Mr. Paul.  Perhaps we can realize the rEVOLution in this way.

I will follow the progress of your campaign in earnest.

Respectfully,

Both parties are two sides from the same coin and while the system is rigged and loaded with sinister players the political logjam can be broken.  Good luck and remember to never, never, ever give up fighting.  Honesty and truth will out eventually.

You have some really great ideas. I only wish I lived in Pennsylvania's 15th district so that I could vote for you. I wish you the best!

Maybe 2010 will be the year of the 3rd Party Insurgency as the 2 party oligarchy rule is coming to an end! Thanks to the Ron Paul R3VOLution and the Campaign for Liberty, more and more Americans are waking up only to realize that their elected career representatives no longer represent We The People but their Corporate Puppet Masters of Greed, Wall Street and the UN-Federal Reserve!

I wish you the Very Best in all that you do Jake, you are a FINE example of the possibilities available to other Freedom loving Patriots in our country if we want to take our country back from the ruling elite, the TIME IS NOW! I've spent the afternoon reading your columns and have concluded that you are exactly the medicine the good Dr. Paul needs to help him in Congress and also the promise of the type of representation that all members of Congress should aspire to, what they SWORE to do when they took their Oath of Office! I only wish that I lived in your district, but I do have some friends there and I will contact them to spread your message.

I am unfortunately unable to contribute to your campaign at this time as I am currently unemployed and uninsured as the result of an auto accident 5 years ago in FL, and due to the "No Fault" auto insurance industry here that is designed specifically for the insurance companies massive profit engine. When you are sitting at a red light behind other cars and get rear-ended by a 16 year old on a cell phone going 50 mph with MINIMUM state required insurance (driving a Ford F-150) and only having a license to drive for 4 months, it will change your perspective on Many aspects of life, as it sure has for me! I was forced to leave a job that I LOVED with excellent health care and end up OWING OVER $50,000 in unpaid medical bills due to lies by doctors and lawyers who advised me to file my claims with my employer's health care provider after the auto insurance medical payments were exhausted, even though my employer and the health insurer were in NO WAY responsible or involved, why should they be saddled with this debt? This attitude is just a small part of what is wrong with our "insurance industry" that is driven by pure GREED! The real kicker was 4 months later when it came time to renew our auto insurance policy that we had with the same company for OVER 10 YEARS with NO claims, NO tickets; they DOUBLED the cost of insurance on the car I drive, and then claim that they are not punishing me! And I am STILL paying for this 5 years later! "Truth is Treason in the Empire of Lies" I now pay cash every month for my doctors visits, lab work and pain meds necessary for me to just function on a daily basis, this is NO way to live!

God Bless you and God Bless America! And please tell your parents they have done a FINE job of raising an Outstanding American citizen, I'm sure they are busting with Pride!

Jake - good luck with your campaign! One of my concerns is that we have had several generations of citizens growing up in the USA who do not understand the horrors of a totalitarian gov't. I'd be interested in any stories you can share about your experience in China that could wise up the coffee shop communists here in the USA who do not realize that communism isn't just a cool alternative to a free society. I will also disclose that I am a practitioner of Chinese Medecine, so I have great respect for the country, but I have significant differences with them on a political/economic level.

Jake, in regards to part of your mission statement:  "The government's monetary role is to mint money and maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not to commit fraud by debasement or to substitute counterfeits of paper for the constitutionally-specified forms of lawful money, coins of gold and silver."   I would like to suggest a slight alteration:   "The federal government should have no role in minting money or maintaining its integrity.  Instead, according to the constitution, that right is distributed amongst the states and congress, and is out of the hands of "federal entities".  States would regulate their money in competition with each other and the federal governments role is ONLY to oversee currency exchange between the states.   This way, money is closer to the control of the people."

I read with great interest some of the comments here regarding partisan affiliation. I fully respect your decision to run as an Independent. If Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor Jesse Ventura can do it, so can you! As I see it, the separation between the elite and the people has never been greater. By now, it's become 100% obvious that the two-party system panders to the elite while the issue of 'messaging' takes center stage in an attempt to sway the independent populist voter. Under the leadership of Bill Clinton the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed. Who in America has gained the greatest benefit from NAFTA, the elite or the people? Towards the end of the Clinton Administration, Senator Phil Graham sponsored S-900 which opened the door for predatory lending under federal oversight and control. During the Bush years, Attorneys General from multiple states attempted to protect their citizens from economic ruin. The federal government stood in their way by denying the states legal authority to regulate fraudulent lending practices. In the state of Georgia, mass amounts of K-street money influenced a gubernatorial election, a few months after the republican took office the Georgia Fair Lending Act (GFLA) was gutted. Why was the GFLA under attack? It made those holding bundled 'liars loans' liable if they went into default. Even federal institutions such as Freddie and Fanny could be held liable since they'd purchased fraudulent derivatives. A complete overhaul of our beloved federal government is in order. All three branches have been severely compromised. The greatest travesty of all is with the federal judiciary. Citizens have lost their right to call for a grand jury investigation into government corruption at any level. Another court ruling protected the use of corporate money to influence U.S. elections. Has the leadership from either major political party stepped up to reform how U.S. elections are financed? Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and now Barack H. Obama had/has the opportunity to restore credibility to our most sacred right, our right to vote. The FCC could force major media companies to provide free airtime for all candidates and equal participation in televised political debates. A constitutional convention is in order. Neither major political party will advocate for a constitutional convention, their mere existence and domination of Americas body politic is 100% dependent on maintaining the status quo. What's status quo? The interests of the elite is protected and promoted at the expense of Americas middle-class. With a dwindling middle-class the poor have little if any chance to improve their conditions without government assistance. I invite all of you to join the independent movement by supporting independent media. Americas messengers have all too often looked the other way. The mainstream press has become a lap dog instead of being a watch dog. The corporate owned news media is public enemy number one. Patriotic journalists and investigative journalists are greatly outnumbered and in most media markets have disappeared entirely. Independently yours, Steven Thompson, editor Freedom From The Press Please send your news stories, press releases and how the press is or isn't covering your campaign to: http://freedomfromthepress.net

Good luck Jake.  I was running in the 17th but there is not enough support for an independent so I dropped out.   The Republicans swooped in an d convinced all the 9-12ers and tea partiers that it is better to try to take over the county committees.  That's been tried before.  The muckety mucks have more tricks up their sleeves to fight off an internal coup than you can shake a stick at.  They are experts and have been surviving for 30 years or more.  I am afraid the well intentioned people who have just now become active will have a rude awakening in January of 2011 when all the Republicans they help get elected show their true colors or later in the year when they find out taking over the county committees don't give them as much power as they thought,

In the meantime I will soldier on and maybe tackle the statehouse.

Good luck and keep fightin!.

Rick
